Currency
Spain officially uses the euro. You'll find euro bills in denominations
of €5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €200, and
€500. A euro is broken down into 100 cents, and there are coins
of 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, €1,
and €2.
Banks
Banks in Madird usually work from 8:30 a.m. untill 2:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday. Some branches open on Thursday evening (e.g. Caja
Madrid) or Saturday morning.
Currency Exchange
The best places for changing currency are at the airports and in banks.
Tipping
Tipping is not obligatory in Madrid. Restaurant bills, as a rule,
already include service. However, you can always tip a water if you
like the service. A small tip (no more than 5-7%) will be appriciated.
It's a good rule to tip a hotel porter for his services, one euro
can be quite enough. Use the rule: tip if the service is good and
you want to say not only thank you. |
