Today it is a museum and gallery, housing an excellent art collection of paintings from the 15th to the 20th century. Among the outstanding masters and artists of exhibit masterpieces there are such as Rubens, Murillo, Zurbaran, Goya, Giovanni, Bellini, Tintoretto, Raphael, Titian, Correggio, Van Dyck, El Greco, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Juan Gris. The most amazing works are two self-portraits of Goya, his classic fiesta scene Burial of the Sardine and canvasses by Murillo, Velasquez and Ribera. The museum has the room which is dedicated to Pablo Picasso and displays all variety of his masterpieces and the entire room devoted to Goya, where the visitors can value and enjoy his works, among which there is his outstanding rather grim Madhouse. Besides, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando hosts a room particularly for decorative arts, a section of prints and drawings and an array of sculptures. Totally the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando owns more than 1500 paintings and near 600 sculptures which range from the 15th to the 20th century. The museum offers a library, bookshop and guided-group tours for visitors. The admission to the Academy is 2.40 euro for adults and for students, persons under 18 and over 65 its free. |
