The original collections of the museum included art, archeological, historical, ethnographic and numismatic items. Today the mansion of the museum houses the heritage of the artifacts from the Prehistoric to Baroque. Here are displaying finds from Paestum, Ibiza and Rome, Spain Islamic collection. The museum offers to the visitors attention incomparable Egyptian sarcophagi and mummies, Moorish archeology and Mudejar masonry, ceramics, Visigothic crowns and Hispano Roman decorative arts. Mosaic floor presenting the seasons and months, Recesvinth crown, ivory processional cross from the church of San Isodoro in Leon deserve top delight. Besides, visitors can explore here the collections of Spanish Renaissance lusterware, Retiro porcelain, Teravera pottery and rare 16th and 17th century Andalusian glassware. Lots of items are the treasures which were removed from monasteries and churches. Among the most outstanding works there are the Lady of Elche, the reproduction of the roof of the Caves of Altamira and the Crowns of Guarrazar. Its interesting that the Iberian statue La Dama de Elche is made of stone from Pre-roman time finding around the area Elche. Admission is 3 euro for adults, free for children and persons over 65, and its also free for everyone all day Saturday and Sunday. |
