The Casa Museo de Lope de Vega earlier was a house of the greatest Spain’s dramatist of Golden Age, called the “Shakespeare of Spanish literature”. Felix Lope de Vega y Carpio began writing at the age of twelve when he had written his first four-act play. He was a very inconsistent person. For eight years Felix was banished from the city for having insulting poems about his girlfriend which was a daughter of no small importance businessman.

More than 1500 of the author’s works of poetry, novels and devotional works have never been beaten.

Felix lived in this building until his death in 1635. So his house today is a museum providing an overview of the 17th century’s everyday life.

Most parts of the house of Felix Lope de Vega y Carpio were reconstructed. After restoration the house of the author was named a national historical/artistic monument and today it’s open to the public. The museum kept some details of the house’s interior of that time and exhibits personal belongings of Felix Lope de Vega. Among the interior details the visitors can see the heavy wooden shutters of the house, beamed ceilings, creaking staircases, whale-oil lamps and pans which were used to warm the bedsheets. The museum displays few bedrooms, the kitchen, oratory, pulpit and book-lined study, where the genius had written most of his plays.

Admission to the Casa Museo de Lope de Vega is 2 euro and free on Saturdays.
