Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia is the official name of
the national Spanish museum of the 20th century art. In the past the
building of the museum was a Madrid general hospital and only in 1992
it became the Spanish Museum of modern art. The museum can boast magnificent collections of the array of significant artists, particularly two unexcelled masters of the 20th century - Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. The bombing of Guernica, representing on the most famous of the works of Picasso is the object of proud of the museum. This museum personifies the new trends in modern art. The exhibitions of the museum are embodiment historical avant-garde movements of 20-th century. Abstracts, cubists, surrealists and representational art are personified in the illustrated works of the world geniuses. La tertulia en la cafe Pombo (Conversation in Pombo's cafe) by Jose Gutierrez Solana, El retrado de Josette (Josette's portrait) by Juan Gris, Escargot, femme, fleur, etoile (Snail, woman, flower, star) by Joan Miro, El gran masturbador by Salvador Dali are the masterpieces of works of art of avant - garde and modern. Besides, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia houses the numerous sculptures and photographs. Among them the visitors can enjoy the Grey Matter Superposition Superposicion de material gris by Antonio Tapies, the Metaphysical Box Caja metafisica by Jorge de Oteiza or the Great Crowd La  grande
Foule by Antonio Saura. It's interesting, but the museum houses the free-access library which specializes in art and offers over 100,000 books, over 3,500 sound recordings and nearly 10,000 videos. Besides, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia offers to visitors 500 seat auditorium, two exhibition rooms, a bookstore, cafeteria and restaurant for have some rest and food. The admission is 6 euro. |
